From the owners:

What was the process of selection for this house? Every other house we visited was dark dank and moldy with either shag or worn carpet. We were looking for high ceilings and hardwood floors and were shown 16' vaulted ceiling in the living room, 14' ceiling in one bedroom with a fireplace and 12' ceiling in the other upstairs bedroom. In addition the house was on a paved road where around the lake not many were. This was important for year round accessibility and being on the other side of the road from the boathouse had certain advantages. One important consideration was keeping the grandchildren away from the water without supervision.

We were not sold immediately on a house across the road from the lake, but within two years we considered it a real blessing. We could spend the day on the lake and then retire to the house on the hill for quiet and trnquility. The grandchildren had plenty of room to ride their bicycles, tricycles, swing in the hammock and on the rope swing. In the Spring , Summer and Fall it is like living in a tree house. We have the best of both worlds. We also loved walking down to Moccasin Creek Park to fish in the well stocked ponds, and play on their playground. There are two areas across from the park that are wonderful for hiking, waterfalls, creeks for catching crayfish and beautiful woods where nature sightings are numerous.

Laprade's restaurant is just down the road. You can go by car or boat. It is such a friendly place people just meet to eat.

It is a great house for entertaining. We have three areas for gathering inside and a wonderful front porch all across the front of the house. There is plenty of parking up at the house and down at the boathouse. So many houses on the lake share driveways and don't have adequate parking.

Since we have bought our home we  have added a 2 story boathouse, cement driveway, garage large enough for 4 cars and workshop, and additional bedrooms, baths and another den and quiet deck overlooking the lake and woods. The original house was designed by Elliott Wiginton of Fox Fire and Claude Rickman and Claude actually built the house. His build talents certainly show in both the house and the boathouse he built later. With the help of Claude and Elliott we have added many personal touches to the house and property.

This dream house has given up immense pleasure and the logical question is why are we willing to leave it behind?  The simple answer is that life changes along with long range plans. We are blessed with grandchildren and kids in Atlanta and Colorado. Our priorities are really with them and their activities. With age and growing physical limitation we feel our best path is to returen to smaller quarters close to the family in Atlanta. I can't crawl under the "hot rod" or move the things once so easy. Life will be easier not having to look after such a large home. It is time to share  it with others.
